U.S. Government Class Syllabus

Syllabus

Welcome to history with a purpose!

This Syllabus outlines the 15 week course. This course was recorded with a live class via webinar and is now available to you in it’s entirety. Bookmark this page as the first place to go for your class. Each week you can scroll down to the next lesson, click on the link to that lesson and you will be taken to detailed instructions and links to the webinar, recorded video, tests, etc. for that week. If you are a High School student, then your tests should be proctored by a teacher or parent. If you are self-pacing this course, then you are on the honor system to not review the tests prior to actually taking them and to only use resources when the test is clearly marked as an open book test.

Links to the first two lessons are NOT password protected so that anyone can “test drive” the class before purchasing. Lessons 3 through 15 require the password received by registrants via email. Once you receive the password, we trust that you will honor the registration agreement and not share the password with anyone other than immediate family members. If you have not yet registered for the class, you can do so here.

Included in this 15 week course are eleven recorded webinars with Rick Green in which he gave a live lecture with powerpoint slides and students engaged in discussion. The other four lessons will be your opportunity to visit the very place where both our Declaration of Independence and Constitution were crafted…Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In these four lessons, Rick will take you inside the cradle of liberty and teach on the Constitution.

4. American Government: Brief Version, 10th Edition

by James Wilson.

Rick recommends you rent the digital version of the book along with the “CourseMate” for $75 here. Or you can rent just the ebook version for $47.99 for six months here.

A new printed version is pretty expensive, but there are used versions at places like Amazon. If you are test driving the course for the first two lessons and have not yet registered, you will need the first chapter of American Government for Lesson Two, but there is no way to give you a free copy of it. You can preview most pages at Google Books here.

Due to time constraints, a reading of The Federalist Papers is not required in this course, but Rick HIGHLY recommend that you read Glenn Beck’s “The Original Argument” and turn in a book report for extra credit (up to 10% on your final grade). Beck’s version covers 33 of the 85 letters and connects them to America today.
